New KRA Pin Registration Requirements

Here are the requirements that applicants must fulfil in order to obtain a new KRA pin in Kenya. I have tried to specify every type of applicant below: Residents, Students, Non Residents, Professionals, Companies etc. You need to find the category you fit in to understand the required documents and details.

Residents

  • National ID/Alien ID Card details.
  • Employers’ PIN details for those who are employed.
  • Business registration certificate details for those in business.

Students

  • National ID Card
  • Institute’s Email Account
  • Parents’ details
  • Physical and Postal Address

Non-Citizen employee or professional (Residing in Kenya)

  • Original Passport and a copy
  • Letter of introduction by employer or employer’s agent and PIN of Employer/agent. Details must be entered in the e-registration form.
  • Original Kenya special pass and endorsed page of the special pass and a copy
  • KRA Acknowledgement Receipt

Diplomat (Residing in Kenya)

  • Original Passport and a copy
  • Diplomatic card and a copy
  • Letter of introduction certified by Ministry of Foreign Affairs Kenya
  • Copy of exemption page endorsed on the passport
  • KRA Acknowledgement Receipt

Non-Citizen Married to Citizen

  • Original Passport and a copy
  • Dependent’s Pass and endorsed page of special pass and copies of both documents
  • Certified copy of Marriage certificate
  • Kenyan Identity card and PIN of the spouse
  • KRA Acknowledgement Receipt

Non-Citizen Students or Interns

  • Original Passport, Student ID and copies of both documents
  • Letter of introduction from Administration of Institute of learning/Internship letter
  • Student/internship/research pass and endorsed page of Student/internship/research pass

Employees of:

  1. Organizations covered under the Privileges and Immunities Act Cap179.
  2. Organizations on the list provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
  • Original Passport and identity card for officials and Copies of both documents
  • Introduction/An Endorsement by the Ministry concerned (where applicable) on the letter from the privileged body to KRA or the organization concerned
  • Copy of exemption page endorsed on the passport
  • KRA Acknowledgement Receipt

A company going through the new PIN application process

The following are the documents necessary to be submitted by a company when applying for new pin registration:

  • Copy of Certificate of Incorporation
  • Copy of CR12(a legal document listing shareholders or directors of the company)
  • Copy of Memorandum and Article of Association (optional)
  • Copy of PIN Certificate for one of the company’s directors
  • Copy of Tax Compliance certificate of one of the company’s directors
  • Copy of the Acknowledgement Receipt

Firm initiating new partnership process

The following documents are required by the partnership firm applying for new PIN registration:

  • Copy of the Acknowledgement Receipt
  • PIN Certificate for one of the partners
  • Deed of the partnership (optional)

How to get itax login and password?

You will automatically receive an iTax PIN and password via a KRA-generated email after successful submission. To log in, go to KRA iTax Portal and enter your iTax PIN and password.
