What is KYEOP?

The government of Kenya initiated the Kenya Youth Empowerment and Opportunities Project (KYEOP) to empower the youth and uplift their living standards by training them with marketable skills, providing them with internships, and offering business grants to those with a passion for start-ups.

This results from high unemployment levels among the youth, which poses an unprecedented threat to the economy and the country’s security. MbeleNaBiz This is an initiative of the Kenyan government under KYEOP, which aims to expand existing youth start-ups by providing them with entrepreneurship and financial grants. MbeleNaBiz gets support from the World Bank, and together with KYEOP, their sole purpose is to oversee youths run their successful businesses.

The cycle 9 application is across the corner. All you need to do is sign up online, apply for a course or a business grant, and submit your application. Youth are particularly encouraged to apply online. This is because manual applications consume time and are usually considered in the final stages of the intake process.

In addition, the vulnerable, women, and marginalized youths are encouraged to apply because KYEOP is an equal employer, as they also stand a better chance of getting business grants. All applicants are required to provide accurate information in their application process because outcome decisions will be made based on the data provided by the applicant.

KYEOP Cycle 8

The courses offered by KYEOP range from technical to non-technical, this is to ensure every youth fits in and all talents and passions are tailored according to course preferences.

For KYEOP cycle 8, youths successful in getting business support will receive the following:

  • Financial grants to start their business or expand an already running business.
  • Insights and business development services to run a successful start-up and become established entrepreneurs.

On the other hand, the beneficiaries of KYEOP cycle 9 training and internship will receive:

  • 1 dedicated month of specific business skills and life skills training. (This program will run from morning to evening)
  • 2 months of advanced formal skills training closely followed by 3 months internship program
  • 5 months of on-job training by qualified craftsmen
  • Entrepreneurship skills training

After successful completion of courses, the trainees graduate and are awarded certificates. The certificates are available online, and the graduates must enter their respective Kenyan Identity Card (ID) numbers to download their certificates.

KYEOP Next Cycle Qualifications

For you to qualify for this program, you should be:

  • A Kenyan citizen
  • A young person aged between 18 – 29 years
  • Holder of Kenyan National Identity card (ID)
  • In possession of a form 4 certificate as the maximum qualification and below
  • Currently unemployed

However, only youths from 17 KYEOP-implementing counties are qualified to apply. These counties are:

  1. Bungoma
  2. Kakamega
  3. Kilifi
  4. Kitui
  5. Kwale
  6. Kisumu
  7. Kiambu
  8. Kisii
  9. Migori
  10. Machakos
  11. Mandera
  12. Mombasa
  13. Nyandarua
  14. Nakuru
  15. Nairobi
  16. Turkana
  17. Wajir

The counties are chosen according to high population density and minority groups. However, youth from the other non-eligible counties should not be disheartened because their counties will be included with time.
