The U.S. government operates an international academic exchange program, Fulbright, also known as the Fulbright scholarship.
Fulbright Scholarship 2023
Annually, appropriate funds are given to the U.S. Department of State to sponsor this program. Many foreign governments also participate in this program.
More than 8000 students, scholars, teachers, artists and professionals from the United States and 160 other countries are awarded under this program. The selection process is merit-based. Beneficiaries of Fulbright are also known as fulbrighters.
Individuals of diverse backgrounds are eligible to become Fulbright scholars. Their selection is based on merit without considering their race, ethnicity, nationality, gender, age, religion, location, economic status, disability, sexual orientation, or gender identity.
Fulbright Program for Students, Teachers, Professions
There are four types of Fulbright grants offered to Kenyans, these are:

- Professionals Grant

Fulbright Foreign Student Program (FFSP)
The Fulbright Foreign Student Program enables graduate students, young professionals, and artists from other nations to research and pursue studies at academic institutions and universities in the United States.

Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant Program (FLTA)
By participating in the Fulbright FLTA Program, young teachers of English as a Foreign Language are provided with an opportunity to enhance their teaching abilities and gain knowledge about American culture and traditions. This, in turn, contributes to the advancement of foreign language education at colleges and universities in the United States.
It is necessary to have completed college and acquired a degree that is equivalent to a bachelor’s degree.

Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program
The Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program (FVSP) is a fellowship for research that offers scholarships to foreign academics or professionals, allowing them to pursue advanced studies at universities in the United States. The program provides two kinds of grants: Research Grants and Grants for Program and Curriculum Development.
The applicant must be a citizen of Kenya (or PR Holder), and should hold a valid Kenyan passport.
Note : Individuals who do not have any prior experience of being a recipient of a Fulbright scholar grant and who have limited experience of living or working in the United States, will have a favorable position.
