We have very exciting news for residents of Kenya (especially those living in the Kiambu Country). The Government Has finally Begun the Construction of 10,000 low-cost housing units in Kiambu under the affordable housing scheme.

The national government has launched a program to build affordable housing in Kiambu county. The Affordable Housing Project aims to construct 10,000 houses in Kiambu on a similar scale to those being built in various Nairobi estates.

On the project’s launch on February 23, a government spokesperson said that the affordable houses will take into account the financial circumstances of various Kenyans interested in purchasing units. The houses will be classified into three categories based on income: affordable, social, and urban.

Under this affordable housing program, any Kenyan can own a house in any part of the country “We are not only building affordable houses that are inexpensive to construct, but we are also providing houses that are reasonably priced and constructed to the expected quality,” he added. The new houses will primarily benefit civil servants who are relocating from the city. According to a HassConsult report published in February 2022, the demand for detached units influenced the paradigm shift in buyers’ priorities and purchasing power. Another Knight Frank report published in early 2021 detailed how homeowners were fleeing the suburbs in search of more privacy, outdoor space, and land that was more affordable.

• Depending on the monthly income, applicants can apply for house that falls under their income criteria

Here are various categories of houses under this scheme:

Among the AHP categories is Affordable – a product targeted at individuals earning less than Sh30,000 per month and priced between Sh1.5 million for a one-bedroom unit and Sh4.5 million for a three-bedroom unit.

The second category, Social, is for individuals earning between Sh30,000 and Sh100,000,

The third category, Urban, is for individuals earning more than Sh100,000 and is designed for individuals who can afford a little more but at a price below the market rate,” Col Oguna explained.

Kiambu Affordable Housing 2022 – How to Apply & Fill in the Registration Form

Oguna detailed how interested parties can acquire units once construction is complete. To obtain a unit, one must register with a recognized government website known as Boma Yangu Kenya and then submit their personal information and preferred housing type. Following registration, your information is authenticated with relevant stakeholders. Following verification, you will be assigned a unique identification number, which you will use to make your monthly contribution to the housing fund. The purpose of verification is to ensure that a single individual may own only one house. Houses are allocated in a consistent, equitable, and transparent manner. To qualify, an individual must be a Kenyan citizen over the age of 18 with a valid national identity card.
